Tour Camp Tekoa
Welcome to Camp Tekoa, located in the beautiful mountains of Hendersonville, North Carolina. Since 1949, our facility has served as a place where hearts are touched, lives are changed, and the light of Christ is shared. This video tour provides a firsthand look at the spaces and places that make Camp Tekoa special.
The Heart of Camp
At the center of our 130-acre property sits the Island, marked by a historic wagon wheel that has stood since our founding. This central gathering space connects to our main facilities, including the dining hall, which also houses our office, where all visitors check in at the red door. The front steps of the dining hall serve as a gathering place for morning devotions, talent shows, announcements, and casual conversations between friends.
Dining Experience
Our dining hall welcomes campers in two shifts for every meal. Each meal begins with a blessing chosen from those displayed on the wall. Campers enjoy buffet-style service with options including a salad bar, milk and juice machines, and clearly labeled menu boards that identify allergens to keep everyone safe. Our commitment to food safety and variety ensures that every camper finds something they enjoy.
Waterfront Adventures
🏊 Swimming & Safety
The three-acre lake offers a variety of water activities, supervised by highly trained lifeguards. The waterfront features slides, a diving dock with a high dive, a shallow swimming area for developing swimmers, and a sand beach. We take water safety seriously through our buddy system and swim test requirements for deep-end access.
🚣 Boating & Zipline
Campers can enjoy canoeing and paddle boating while wearing properly fitted personal flotation devices. Additional water attractions include our thrilling zipline, which carries riders across the lake from the wooded launch area to the far shore, and our popular rope swing.
Cabin Accommodations
Our cabin village includes both historic structures that have served campers for decades and newer, handicap-accessible buildings, such as Williams Cabin and Cedar Cabin. Each cabin provides bunk beds with storage space underneath and between bunks. All cabins have their own bathroom facilities with showers, toilets, and sinks, as well as access to our well-maintained central bathhouses. Front porches on every cabin offer space for games, drying laundry, and enjoying the mountain air in rocking chairs.
Outdoor Facilities
🌲 The Meadow
The property features extensive outdoor spaces, including the Meadow, home to our tree climb, a two-person big zipline, a vertical playground, a slip-and-slide, and the always-popular mud pit. The large open space is perfect for picnics, games, and stargazing.
🏕️ Trails & Camping
Our wooded trails wind through the property, leading to outdoor camping shelters where middle school and high school campers experience overnight adventures, cooking over open fires, and connecting with nature. The Meditation Trail provides a peaceful setting for quiet reflection and nature exploration.
Challenge and Adventure
🧗 Climbing & Ropes
For team building and personal growth, we offer a challenge course and low ropes course. Older campers can test themselves on our 40-foot climbing tower, leap of faith, high ropes course, and giant swing, all facilitated by trained staff. The Ninja Cave provides a covered bouldering wall for younger adventurers.
⛳ Disc Golf & Sports
Our 18-hole disc golf course, large activity field with a playground, rainy-day shelter, and small basketball court ensure there's always something to do, regardless of the weather or interests.
🎨 Creative Spaces
Our arts and crafts program allows every camper to create something special to take home. The Campfire Circle, which seats 300, hosts opening campfire on Sunday nights and closing campfire on Friday nights.
Specialized Spaces
🏛️ Historic Buildings
Locust, a cabin more than a century old, now serves as our nature lodge and fishing spot. Laurel Lodge has hosted day camp, special needs camping through Camp Barnabas, retreats, and after-school programs for decades. The back porch of Laurel remains a favorite spot for s'mores, storytelling, and Tuesday night worship.
✝️ Chapel In The Woods
No space captures the spirit of Camp Tekoa quite like our outdoor Chapel In The Woods, a place of beauty and reflection. On Friday nights, campers participate in a moving tradition of lighting candles around the lake, holding them high as a reminder to take the light of Christ into the world.
Safety & Accreditation
🚑 Health & Safety
For off-site adventures, we maintain a fleet of activity buses, each driven by a certified driver. Our infirmary operates 24 hours a day, staffed by volunteer registered nurses. All staff members are trained in CPR and First Aid, reflecting our commitment to safety throughout every activity.
⭐ ACA Accreditation
Camp Tekoa is accredited by the American Camp Association, meaning we meet rigorous standards across 250 points of review, from staff qualifications to emergency management protocols.
